One of the questions my clients often ask me is whether or not they can wear white jeans in the fall. My answer is yes – with a few styling tips, which I’m sharing with you today. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I think wearing white after Labor Day is an old “rule” worth breaking. There are many ways to make your white jeans, dresses, and tops seem less summery (read my recent post with outfit ideas here.) The easiest ways are pairing them with with fall colors and adding layering pieces. I put together three white jeans outfits with a sleeveless top from Loft to show you how to wear them from early fall to late fall to winter. You can easily recreate these outfits with items you already have in your closet.
(My friend, Shana, told me she loved my outfit pictures, but I needed to move away from my bedroom door as the background. I shot pictures for this post outside with my tripod. In 90 degree weather. Wearing boots and a sweater. It. Was. Hot! I was so sweaty that when I put on the long sweater, I could barely get my arms through the sleeves!)
This top is perfect for the weather in Houston right now, and the colors work well with white jeans. I’m wearing Tory Burch flats in this picture. In the spring or summer I would wear sandals or wedges, making this outfit appropriate for three seasons. One thing I especially like about this top is that it is tunic length and covers your backside, which means you can wear it with leggings.
To wear this outfit if, I mean when, the weather gets colder, I would add a lightweight cardigan and booties. I chose this shrug from cabi because I like the way it defines my waist, and it’s a great weight for Houston. Notice I’m wearing brown booties with navy – it’s okay to mix your neutrals!
The last outfit is my favorite. There’s nothing like a cozy, cable knit cardigan and riding boots to make me feel like I’m walking through the woods on a snowy day. (Actually, I felt like Olaf in Arendelle!) The sweater is from cabi, and the boots are Volatile. I’m mixing navy and black this time.
Everything I’m wearing, except for the top, are things I’ve had in my wardrobe for a while. They’re all seasonal staples I wear year after year; it’s easy to update my look with a new top or jewelry. Check out my online catalog for more shopping options for each item! For more ideas about how to wear white jeans in the fall, you can read last year’s posts here and here.
I’d love to know your thoughts about wearing white jeans in the fall/winter. Do you keep your white jeans in your wardrobe after summer or put them away until spring? I hope I inspired you to give white jeans in the fall a try!
