Fashion Friday: After School Special

After School SpecialAllegra Necklace, Linda Studs, Jackie Link Bracelet, Tia Cross Body

I love back-to-school fashion. I remember going shopping for school clothes with my mom, picking out my first-day-of-school dress (it was always a dress,) getting new shoes, and going to the salon for a new ‘do. I did the same things when I was teaching, adding highlights, a facial, and a massage to my list of preparations. It feels good to get a fresh look in September (or August, since schools in Texas start anywhere from the second to fourth week of the month.) The days of three months off during the summer are long gone!

I still like to refresh my wardrobe in the fall. It’s usually warm well into October, even November in Houston. This summer has been the mildest I can remember, so maybe we’ll get an early fall. One can always hope! Until then, I will daydream about cold-weather outfits and jumping into piles of leaves. As much as I love Houston – I’m a fourth-generation Houstonian and a seventh-generation Texan – I long for New England falls. Maybe I was a Bostonian in a former life?

The graphic tee and leather pants in Stella & Dot’s After School Special outfit are a fun contrast to the preppy blazer and shoes. The black-and-gold Allegra Necklace has a modern silhouette with a classic color combination. Here’s my interpretation, with clothes that fit a curvy body type and won’t break the bank.

I found the exact shirt at J. Crew on sale for $34.99 and ordered it in XL, which correlates to a size 18. I don’t like t-shirts to be too thin or too fitted. I also ordered the faux leather pants from Nordy’s in a small (it’s really a size 16, but I love being able to  buy a “small” in something!) I don’t have anything like these pants in my wardrobe, and I have some other tops and tunics that might go with them. I’d like to add the blazer to my wardrobe, but I get hot in blazers, so they hang, unworn, in my closet year after year. If I like the shirt well enough to wear without something over it, I might I might spring for the blazer to complete the outfit.

What do you think of my look? Do you like the graphic tee with a preppy blazer and leather pants? I can’t wait to get my orders. I’ll post pictures with a review when they arrive.
