The Kellys

I watched some seriously good television this summer, y’all. I’m a total convert to Netflix, iTunes, and Amazon Instant Video for all of my viewing needs. I rarely watch network TV anymore, although I have a feeling Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Revenge, and The Good Wife will be in my DVR cue. I love a good drama!

The Emmys are on tonight, and most of my favorite shows and actors from my summer viewing aren’t nominated but should be. I’ve carefully considered my choices, and these are my picks in the major categories. And the Kelly goes to:

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

Mireille Enos – The Killing (bonus points ’cause she’s from Houston)

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

Kevin Spacey – House of Cards (he was born to play this role)

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

Kate Mulgrew – Orange is the New Black (I fully believe she’s a Russian cook who laundered drug money through her grocery store)

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

Joel Kinnaman – The Killing (perfect couterpart to Mireille Enos’s character)

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series

Natasha Lyonne – Orange is the New Black (damn, that girl’s talented!)

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series

Peter Sarsgaard – The Killing (The episode, Six Minutes, is one of the most brilliant hours of drama ever)

Outstanding Drama Series

The Wire , Season 4 (I know, it’s been off the air for 5 1/2 years, but it was the best thing I watched all summer)

Runners up: The Killing, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black

Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series

The Wire, all of it

Runners up: The KillingHouse of CardsOrange is the New Black
