Never Too Late: Stella & Dot

Continuing my quest to make 40 the new 30, I’m embarking on a new adventure – as an Independent Stylist for Stella & Dot! I’ve never done anything like this before, although I did sell picture frames and cocktails (though not at the same place) during and just after college (shout out to  Barry Framing and Bombay Bicycle Club!) The jewelry is irresistibly adorable,  and I thought, “I could sell that!” so I signed up and started my own business. Deep breath!

I feel like I’m pushing myself a little bit (okay, maybe a lot), doing something I truly never imagined myself doing – direct sales. So many things appeal to me about this business, besides the FABULOUS jewelry – working for myself, opportunities to be creative outside my classroom, meeting new people and strengthening the friendships I already enjoy, and the chance to do some work that doesn’t involve teaching. I also love the story behind the business – founder and CEO, Jessica Herrin, started right out of business school, sold it, and then set out to combine technology and social media with a home-based business that gathered women together around a stellar product – stylish, boutique-style jewelry.

She started out hosting trunk shows of her own, selling handmade jewelry and DIY jewelry kits. She refined the concept, bringing on the talented, Parsons School of Design-trained Blythe Harris to design a hip, vintage-inspired jewelry line. Jessica took the home party idea from Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Willow House (formerly Southern Living at Home) etc. and applied it to something every woman desires – a versatile, affordable jewelry collection. Brilliant!

I’m a bit apprehensive about jumping into the “would you like to host a party to earn FREE jewelry” pool, and I’m not that into earning trips to Cabo (me on a beach with a bunch of people I don’t know? um, no), but I’m rolling with it because I need to find and embrace my “growing edges.”

So, here I go! I have a website and a Facebook page, so click away! I am excited about my launch party this coming Sunday afternoon. I spent the weekend running errands, ordering food, and picking up some bubbly drinks and am looking forward to welcoming friends and family to my home.

I feel a little crazy, but I’m also excited to learn new things.

Anyone want to host a party to earn FREE jewelry???
